I hate getting out of bed in the dark — how can I make it easier?

We want our internal clocks to be in sync with the solar day, which means we want sunlight in the morning and darkness at nighttime. So when we have darkness in the morning, it can definitely be harder to wake up. A sunrise alarm clock, which works with your circadian rhythm by using light to gradually wake you up, can help. If you don’t want a new alarm clock, simply putting the alarm that you do have on the opposite side of the room can help — you might not love this idea, but it will get you out of bed! This trick will also keep you from hitting the snooze button (also not your friend when you’re trying to adjust to Daylight Saving Time).

If winters are cold where you live, program the heat to turn on about 15 minutes before your alarm; it’ll help make leaving your nice, cozy bed a little easier. And keep a glass of water next to your bed that you can drink as soon as your alarm goes off. Hydrating will stimulate your nervous system and help move your body in the morning.
